maybe I’m just getting good at changing them out. This is my first State water heater. I tried this brand because I had bad experiences with my last 2 water heaters. The gas valves failed on both, one in 4 years and one in just over 6 years (just a week out of warranty). The gas valve on this water heater is the same brand as the 2 that failed and I think the gas valves are crap. I searched long and hard to find a name brand water heater that didnt use this valve but was unsuccessful. The only reason I can imagine that manufacturers use this valve is so they can sell more heaters. I am not expecting a very long life and wont comment on quality.

My old water heater was leaking from the top down so I had to act quickly to replace it. My vendor, Wake Forest Plumbing did a great job of letting me know my options which were not many because , my water heater is in my attic and the space to get into my attic is more narrow than many of the water heaters available today. Luckily this water heater was appropriate for my family / house size and they were able to install that day. My water is on the lowest setting and is still very hot. I don’t have to wait a long time for hot water in my kitchen which is the furthest from my water heater. It is extremely effective and I am pleased with the product and service.

A State Select water heater was the brand heater put in my new home in 2004. I had never heard of this brand but I must say it was an excellent water heater. For 12 years never a service call on the heater except for one time the pilot light went out because the wind blew in the garage where it is housed and caused the pilot light to go out. Since it was gas I was a little afraid to mess with it. Had my plumber come out and he lit the pilot showed me how to lite it in case it happened again. I just had a new one delivered and installed today because I was advised my old one had a problem and had served its purpose. My reason for another State Select would be 12 years of no problems with my original State Select water heater repair.
